Our weekly classes in Fort Collins, Colorado, are an inviting and exciting space for dancers of all skill levels and abilities to move their bodies and join our community!

Dance Fitness meets Burlesque Basics meets Sexy Yoga – all in one class. SSS is designed for all levels of dancer looking to get comfortable in their skin while initiating a little blood flow in the bod. This class will include a sultry jazz-style warm-up, “across the floor drills”, strength building conditioning exercises & dancer specific stretches.

Learn the art of the tease! Class includes peeling technique for gloves, shoes, stockings, bras, and undies as well as pastie twirling and application! We’ll put it all together in a fun and exciting group striptease routine that you can perform at one of our recitals OR perform at home as a solo (wink!). No nudity is required for class – wear your regular workout clothes and we’ll layer our lingerie over top. Please bring a pair of gloves, thigh-high stockings, high-heels, bra, and panties, boas will be provided. Class open to intermediate+ dancers, please consider taking Burlesque Jazz FIRST to familiarize yourself with basic burlesque dance vocabulary.

Let’s get a little Dirrrty! This class takes a fun spin on the urban side of burlesque – with influences of hip-hop, krump, and TWERK! We’ll even take our dance down to the floor, so wear over-the-knee socks, legwarmers, pants, or kneepads. The class will include warm-up, drills, combos, and then we’ll put all those booty-poppin’, knee shakin’, floor-breakin’ moves together in a drop-dead-sexy routine that students will have the opportunity to perform at our regular recitals. Open to all levels, students should be comfortable crawling around on the floor.

Class includes a warm-up, cool-down, and focuses on a thorough breakdown of belly dance isolations, foot patterns, and arm variations and combines them in layered movements. Drills will be combined into simple combinations at the end of each class so students have the opportunity to really dance!

Perfect for intermediate belly dancers who love to dance and want a great workout at the same time! Participants will learn a fun and funky belly dance routine while stretching, strengthening, and burning calories. Class includes warm-up, cool-down, technique drills, and movement breakdowns, all combined into an upbeat belly dance routine that students will have the opportunity to perform at our regular recitals. It is helpful to have belly dance experience and be familiar with basic isolations and foot patterns before attending this class: hip ups and downs, 3/4 shimmies on the up and down, chest and shoulder isolations, and basic foot patterns (grapevines, arabics, step-touch, etc.)

In this special three class (70 minute each) series Julia will guide students through the art of creating a dance! Week 1 will be a lecture in “Music Theory for Dancers” where students will learn how to count music, identify rhythms and song structure, and map a song. Week 2 will be a movement creation workshop where students will learn movement filters and be guided through exercises to create new movement ideas and refine movement into dance combos. Week 3 will be a feedback/peer review workshop where students are encouraged (not required) to showcase a solo dance of any style for feedback and coaching from Julia and the other participants. Dress comfy and cozy, bring something to take notes on and water. This series is limited to 10 dancers only!

  • Failure to pay the session fee at the FIRST class of the session means you must pay the drop-in rate for any classes attended in that session.
  • Failure to attend any/all classes in a session does not create a credit for future classes.
  • REGISTRATION PAYMENTS MAY NOT BE APPLIED TO FUTURE SESSIONS, please don’t even ask.
  • Session spots may be transferred to another individual, notify your instructor of the change in writing.
  • Payment is due before or at the beginning of class. You may not join a class until you have checked in and paid any applicable fees, even if you are arriving late.
  • Drop-in space is only available if a session is not sold out and drop-in space cannot be reserved.
  • Bounced check writers will be charged the face value plus a $20 penalty fee.
  • NO REFUNDS OR CREDITS, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Studio Nights are our in-studio showcases for our students to perform the dances they learn in classes!  Held at the end of every 6 week session of classes, Studio Nights are open to all dancers who attend classes but are not required

Gift Certificates

A perfect present for the dancer in your life!

Gift Certificates can be used on ANY 6-week session of Starlight Studio classes, as long as space is available. They expire 6 months from the purchase date and are non-transferable. Once purchased, you will be emailed a PDF certificate that you can print out and tuck in a card or attach to an E-Card!

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve paused our online class offerings for the foreseeable future as we’ve been experiencing increasing difficulty with Facebook Live and Youtube. We hope to work on a better platform and offer these options to you again soon!

Wear whatever is comfortable and you can move in. We recommend a tank top or sports bra with shorts, leggings, or yoga-type pants. Bare feet, ballet slippers, tennis shoes, or socks are all fine, heels are great (but not required) for burlesque classes. Be as casual or get as dressed up as you like! Always bring a water bottle to ALL classes!

All of our classes are held at Starlight Studio – 2700 South College Ave #185, Fort Collins, Colorado. Our entrance is in the back of the building, there is a parking lot and glass door to enter the building. Once inside, follow the signs to our studio.

The easiest way is to use the shopping cart on our website and pay with a debit/credit card, e-check or PayPal account. Otherwise, payment (cash, PayPal or Venmo) is due at the beginning of the class. If you’re paying in cash, exact change is GREATLY appreciated.

If you’re coming to our classes for the first time show up a few minutes early to sign a waiver and fill out a registration card with your contact information. We use this information to inform you of class cancellations, upcoming events, and other important announcements.

Not at all! Drop-ins are welcome at any time IF AND ONLY IF there’s still space in that session. Sold-out sessions will be clearly noted on the website in real time. Also, please be aware that material builds each week in a session so dropping in on a class toward the end of a particular session will include material the other students have already learned and therefore will not be broken down as thoroughly.

No refunds, no credits, no exceptions. Please read our entire Payment Policies BEFORE registering for class.

No. In fairness to our other students and for liability reasons we do not allow people to come and watch class.

Unfortunately, no. For the comfort and consideration of all our students, and for liability reasons, we do not allow children in class whether they want to participate or just quietly watch.

Please read the class descriptions to determine where you should begin and don’t be afraid to just try it! Most of our classes cater to a variety of levels and are great for beginners: Burlesque Jazz and Belly Dance Level I are the best place to start! We don’t recommend taking Belly Dance Level II unless you have previous belly dance experience or have already attended a few sessions of Belly Dance Level I nor do we recommend taking Striptease 101 before attending a session of Burlesque Jazz.

Our classes have a minimum of 5 students and are limited to 12 students so you get plenty of one-on-one attention from your instructor!

Classes are open to all genders with only one exception: Striptease 101 is limited to women, female identifiers, and non-binary folx.  If you have concerns about this please contact Julia to discuss. Our goal is to create a space where ALL feel safe and welcome. Please note that inappropriate behavior by ANYONE will not be tolerated, this is a safe and loving space.

Classes are for adults 18 years and up. We have made a few exceptions for well-behaved teens in Belly Dance Classes. Please contact Julia to discuss this.

Sumatra Belly Dance Company and The Cupcake Cabaret are always on the lookout for more talented and dedicated dancers. Typically company members are pulled from our loyal and dedicated student base but occasionally via formal auditions. The best way to get involved is to attend our weekly classes and perform in our Studio Night Showcases!
